I have have been attracted to storytelling through sculpture for some time. My ideas can come from anywhere and I typically will follow up with a bit of research that begins a self-conversation informed through sketches of the character(s) involved. This process leads to the construction of armatures and “playtime”- blocking of the models to discover how the story might best be communicated. Armatures are then covered in clay and modeled to completion. Next comes the technical process of drying, firing, glazing and refiring the figures to a high temperature that makes them strong enough to withstand the process of adjustments (grinding, filing) for presentation in the final tableau.
