Project Description

Dana Murray

Perseverance, patience, creativity. These are the qualities I practice most often with water drop photography. It is very challenging, but rewarding, because I am capturing something that is nearly invisible to our eyes. There is delicate beauty, and elements of surprise, in each tiny, amazing water drop. Ocean water, rain water, drinking water–all have unique nuances. I let the water guide me, and show me it’s personality. I use a digital camera, tripod and flashes. The background and the drop are always one photo, not two photos combined. Very minimal work is done in the digital darkroom (such as Photoshop). I spend up to seven hours per shoot, taking at least a few hundred photos. Of these I will set aside a handful of favorites, with one or two, at most, for printing later.
