Introducing the Art Car! The Art Car is an old Saab that just received a new paint job thanks to a talented group of students from Columbia River High School. Arts of Clark County Board members Scott Collard and Maureen Andrade worked with local educators and businesses to create the project. The students planned the painting with guidance from their art teacher, Jason Phelps, and painted it with “graffiti art.” Vancouver’s Downtown Association arranged for the students to work on the project on Main Street during June’s First Friday Art Walk.
The collaborative art project brought businesses, students and arts advocates together to recycle a used car with new “skin.” Atomic Auto of Portland donated the used car and Battle Ground Printing donated the “wrap” and their work for a new 3M product that coats the car with a fresh surface for painting. The students painted the new skin with images to represent all the arts including music, literary, performing and visual art. The car will appear at various events around the county and be used as a loaner car by Atomic Auto.
