Project Description
Betsy Soifer
Sculpting was my goal as a daughter of an artist. Biology, medicine and teaching, however, were my first career. Recycling became my passion, so combining recycling and sculpting to mimic nature seemed perfect. My creatures are primarily made of recycled mixed metals. They are constructed using nuts, bolts, screws and wire. My wall hangings often mimic taxidermy. Whimsical, washable animal heads or birds recall my father’s fascination with this art form. Other creatures fly, stand independently, or sit atop garden stakes. Some used glass, ceramics, or driftwood may be incorporated in the sculpture for form or color.
